Durante toda su vida, Kaavan ha vivido en el zoológico de Islamabad, fue en 1990 cuando este elefante consiguió una compañera, Saheli, con la que se le veía jugar, pero desafortunadamente su amiga murió en el 2012.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">A raíz del fallecimiento de Saheli y las malas condiciones en las que vive, Kaavan comenzó a presentar señales de aburrimiento, estrés e incluso agresión por lo que sus cuidadores decidieron encadenarlo por tres años, además también se notaba triste.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Tras conocerse la historia de Kaavan, varias organizaciones decidieron hacer peticiones para que el elefante fuera liberado o llevado a un lugar más adecuado en donde pueda vivir sin estar encadenado y convivir con otros de su especie.
